Punta Bergantín: a new destination next door
Nine hotels, a golf course and a film studio are planned just west of Sosúa.
Punta Bergantín is the government-backed project to relaunch Puerto Plata as a destination. The approved master plan includes nine hotels, around 6,600 residences, a hospital, a film studio, a golf course and parks. International brands such as Westin, Hyatt and Meliá have signed on, and the golf course is being designed by Beau Welling Design with Davis Love III. The site lies between Puerto Plata and Sosúa, a short drive from Ocean Tree. Projects of this size bring new infrastructure, jobs and visitors, and they tend to lift property values in the towns around them.
