Puerto Plata is the cruise capital of the Dominican Republic
Almost four out of five cruise visitors to the country arrive in Puerto Plata.
In 2025 Puerto Plata handled 78 percent of all cruise arrivals in the Dominican Republic. The Taíno Bay terminal alone welcomed 1,126,485 passengers, 13 percent more than the year before and almost four times the number of 2022. Amber Cove, the second terminal, accounted for another 38 percent of the country’s cruise passengers. Every ship brings thousands of visitors who discover the North Coast for the first time, and many come back to stay longer.
